Two numbers, and both of them are honest
Ask how long the buggy safari lasts and you get two numbers from us, because the day and the drive are measured differently. The whole programme — from the moment the transfer collects you at your hotel to the moment it drops you back — takes approximately 4–4.5 hours. The part you came for, the off-road driving on the private course inland from the Side coast, is measured in distance: an 18 km route. We give the drive as a distance on purpose — the distance is fixed, while how long it takes depends on the group's pace and the day's conditions. One number plans your day, the other sets your expectations.
What happens in the hours you are not driving
Nothing in the programme is filler — every step either gets you to the track or gets you ready to drive it.
- Hotel pickup from Side, Kumköy, Evrenseki, Çolaklı, Titreyengöl, Sorgun, Kızılağaç, Gündoğdu or Kızılot
- Transfer to the base — inland from the coast to the private off-road course
- Arrival and registration — drivers show ID as proof of age (16 or over). No driving licence is required — the safari runs on a private off-road course, not on public roads.
- Information briefing — vehicle, controls, route, rules
- Safety briefing — following the guide, distance, overtaking, stopping, emergencies
- Vehicle briefing and practice drive — then the guide's assessment of every driver
- Main off-road safari — an 18 km route of forest tracks, dirt roads, dust, mud and water-splash stops
- Breaks and operational time — stops, regrouping, waiting for the convoy
- Showers and changing cabins at the base — included
- Return transfer and hotel drop-off
Why the times on this page say 'approximately'
A minute-by-minute schedule would be wrong for most groups on most days, so we do not print one. The total time, and how long the 18 km takes, both move with things decided on the day: the size of the group, the product you booked, traffic on the transfer, where your hotel sits on the pickup route, the weather and the season. None of that is an excuse for a short day — it is why the times are ranges rather than promises, and why the guide sets the pace for the group actually in front of them.
Departure time, pickup time, return time — three different things
The buggy safari has up to three departures a day in season — 08:00, 11:00 and 13:00 — and the booking calendar shows only the ones that run on your date. That is when the activity starts, not when we collect you: the hotel pickup is earlier, depends on your hotel and the day's route, and is confirmed with your booking rather than printed here.
Return works the same way. Count approximately 4–4.5 hours from your pickup and you have a realistic window for being back at your hotel — a window, not a fixed time. We publish no return time because an honest window serves you better than a figure that fails on a busy day.
Planning the rest of your day around it
Treat the safari as roughly half a day and leave the other half loose. A morning departure leaves the rest of the day open; an afternoon departure suits a slow breakfast, but do not book anything with a tight start straight after it. Eat before you go: food and drinks can be bought at the base but are not in the price.
Dress for the whole 4–4.5 hours, not just the driving: old clothes, closed shoes and dark colours, because dust and mud travel back to the hotel with you. The helmet is included and worn for the whole safari; goggles and a bandana are sold at the base if you want them.
Does the quad safari or the family buggy safari take the same time?
Yes — all three safaris run on the same framework: approximately 4–4.5 hours door to door, the same 18 km off-road route, the same transfer, briefings and practice drive before the main track. What changes is who can come. The buggy safari sells adult seats only, for anyone aged 11 or over; children aged 6–10 ride as passengers with an adult on the quad safari and the family buggy safari, at the child fare; children under 6 cannot take part.
